Just so you know, it was very reassuring to see you in the front row. I have many reasons to sit in the front row at a lecture/panel. Calming the person on stage hasn't been one of them until now.
One of the reasons I do is the thought: "It's nicer to give a lecture when someone is looking at you and not at their phone/computer, nodding, making eye contact, and interacting with you, especially if it's a familiar and positive face."
So when there's someone on stage I want to show appreciation for and support, I sit in the front row.
Usually, it's also quality content that I want to experience.
Bonus: it helps me maintain attention and focus. It also prevents me from escaping to my phone/computer.
I don't think it's cool to be on your phone/computer while someone on stage is delivering content that time and effort have been invested in.
To take notes, I use a paper (notebook) and a pen.
